Frank Hayes was a horse trainer and a jockey who on June 4, 1923, was the first and only man to ever win a race despite the fact that he was dead. He was taking part in a race in Belmont, USA where he suffered from a heart attack half way through but because he remained in his saddle for the duration, he was crowned the winner when his horse ran over the finish line first. People were not aware of his death until they went to congratulate his after the race and it is suspected that the excitement of leading the race and his dramatic weight loss beforehand resulted in his premature demise. He was buried three days later and although that was the only race he ever won, the horse never ran again.
