20 Things That Are Gone But Not Forgotten From Walt Disney World
13. Discovery Island
Originally opening as Treasure Island back in 1974, Discovery Island was a small zoological park on Bay Lake.
The last home of the now extinct Dusky Seaside Sparrow, Discovery Island had a shipwrecked boat, scavenger hunts and an aviary.
In 1989 a lawsuit was brought against staff of Discovery Island for the mistreatment of animals and their nests. The lawsuit was eventually settled and Discovery Island remained open to guests.
After Animal Kingdom opened in 1998, there was no need for Discovery Island and most of animals were moved out to the new park.
Even though Discovery Island was closed in 1999, the buildings were never dismantled and were just left abandoned. The island is still patrolled for trespassers and anyone attempting to head to Discovery Island could face a ban from Disney property.
12. Off Kilter
Off Kilter are a Celtic Band that used to appear on stage at Epcot's Canada Pavilion.
The group were very popular at Walt Disney World but in 2014 a number of changes were made to the live entertainment in the parks and their contract was ended. Sadly Off Kilter played their last concert in Epcot in September of that year.
You can still catch the band around the Florida area, just not in Disney World.
