6. Sanzhi Resort - Taiwan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-XV9AcUykA These abandoned pod houses were inspired by Taiwan's Futuro houses; small homes made of fiberglass plastic which measures just four metres high by eight metres wide. In 1978, it was decided that these Futuro-style houses would make an interesting holiday resort, and so construction began in Taiwan to create such an environment. However, in a similar vein to that of Wonderland in Beijing, financial problems set the construction back. But that wasn't the only reason the Sanzhi Resort never came to fruition. During construction there were several fatal accidents which the builders thought was because in order to build the site, they had to divide the Chinese dragon sculpture near to the gates of the resort, which they believed caused bad luck. Since its abandonment, the pods became somewhat of a tourist attraction and many visitors remarked at the odd juxtaposition of seeing something so aesthetically futuristic, so empty and abandoned. In recent years the remaining pods have been demolished and the site is now set to become a seaside resort, that's if the Chinese dragon allows though.
