20 Tragically Unexpected Truths You Learn In Your Twenties

20. It's Really Difficult To Maintain All Your Friendships

When you're young and living at home, you have that beautiful thing called routine. At the time, it may have seemed boring and monotonous, but my word was it easy. You got up and went to school or college in the morning, and all of your friends would be there to greet you. Otherwise you'd go out and play, or knock for friends that lived locally. Easy as pie. A little later some left home for university and had to make new friends, while those who remained found their number of easily accessible friends had significantly dwindled. Even worse though is your twenties, when all of your old acquaintances are dotted across the globe, whether that be travelling, working, or €” shudder €” starting a family. To really stay connected, despite what Mark Zuckerberg tells you, it takes a lot of effort at both ends. Sadly, this will result in friendships diminishing. On the upside, you realise the importance of your closest friends and soon suss out those worth putting in the effort for.
