22 Problems Only British People In America Will Understand

6. Alligators

Here in Britain, the most exciting wildlife you're likely to witness is a shy fox or a nervous deer - and they very rarely appear in populated areas. British gardens usually receive visits from pigeons, crows, magpies and, if you're lucky, hedgehogs and squirrels. Imagine your shock when, say, you rent a villa in Florida for a couple of weeks, with a body of water directly behind it, offering your British brain the chance to perhaps feed some ducks... only for you to discover that it's full of alligators. And not only that, they're also known to raid bins.

5. Guns In Supermarkets

Here in Britain, guns are a rare sight; the police don't carry them in general use and being able to possess one legally as a civilian means going through a drawn out process that involves proving you can securely store the firearms, have no criminal convictions whatsoever, no history of medical conditions/problems or disability - including alcohol and drug related conditions - no history of treatment for depression or any other kind of mental or nervous disorder and no history of epilepsy. Once all of this criteria is met, you get a certificate and can legally own certain guns. Most people, however, don't bother. In America, some supermarkets - such as Walmart - sell guns and ammunition off the shelves. It's sometimes shocking enough for Brits to see police officers carrying guns - imagine the shock at seeing them available for purchase in places where you usually buy your eggs and milk.

4. Everything Just Being Bigger

The country itself, cars, buildings, food portions, theme parks... personalities - everything is bigger in America! Coming from such a little portion of the globe and stepping off the plane in to America can be a shock to the Brits, simply due to the sheer size of everything. It's quite awe-inspiring and coming to terms with the scale of everything is quite the experience.
