13. During A Visit To The White House In 1941 Churchill Spent The Majority Of His Time In His Room Naked, Sipping Brandy... And Even Flashed FDR
Shortly after America entered the war following the Pearl Harbor attack of December 1941, Churchill made a trip to the US to visit President Franklin D Roosevelt. Arriving in secret just before Christmas, Churchill apparently spent the majority of his 24-day stay in his room naked. Chief White House Usher JB West said of the trip:
"We got used to his 'jumpsuit': the extraordinary one-piece uniform he wore every day, but the servants never quite got over seeing him naked in his room when they'd go to serve brandy. "It was the jumpsuit or nothing. In his room, Mr Churchill wore no clothes at all most of the time during the day."
Disturbingly, one day during his visit Churchill had just gotten out of the bath when he started a conversation with FDR - only for his towel to fall down as they were talking. Without hesitating, Churchill then declared:
