While on naval trips during the Second World War, not only did Churchill travel with the pseudonym "Colonel Warden", he also insisted on having a lifeboat mounted with a machine gun on it. Churchill wanted the machine-gun-armed lifeboat on the Queen Mary vessel for his frequent trips across the Atlantic so that he would be able to "resist capture at all costs" - even if the ship itself had been sunk.
