The sheer transformative power of radio and then television cannot be overstated. These are two tools that completely did away with the need to go to a town square or open up a physical newspaper to learn about what’s happening in the world. Instead, machines connected people in their homes to the world around them like never before.

Say what you want about how media is presented on the radio and on TV; these are two massive industries that have become central to daily life for the majority of people on the planet.

It wasn’t just news and critical information that traveled into people’s living rooms. The TV allowed numerous other industries to reach a larger audience. Cartoonists and artists could create art that could be seen by viewers across an entire country. Sports athletes could now showcase their skills in front of a national audience. Entertainment in general became its own industry, allowing for people to become successful in entirely new ventures.

Overall, both the TV and the radio have allowed ordinary people to escape their own realities by tuning in to different forms of entertainment. No longer did people have to stand in small theaters with limited space to enjoy themselves; people could find joy and satisfaction by sitting in the comfort of their own homes and pressing a few buttons to watch whatever they wanted.
