5 Classic Christmas Traditions That Are Completely Over-Rated

2. Christmas Television/Music

Becoming increasingly worse as time shuffles by, Christmas adds to the decline of television by creating special themed episodes of overrated shows. Although it may seem a fairly cynical approach, the only reason that they get viewed is because 90% of the population is inebriated, and the endless reruns of Friends Christmas episodes helps takes their mind of the always lingering threat of reality creeping back in. Christmas movies are no better: filled with cheap humour, indirect casual racism, and pop culture references from 20 years ago that inspire strange nostalgic emotions reminiscent of a better time, causing a deep sense of melancholy and desperation. Originality is also scarce when it comes to Christmas entertainment. The entertainment industry has a sickening lack of imagination during the holidays, essentially mimicking its predecessors, and it's impossible to enjoy. And then of course there's the music, the only thing worse than Christmas television and quite possibly the most offensive thing that has ever been created. Hearing the same songs year after year is torture enough, but having to endure hearing this at home, in shops, in bars, in the car, and eventually in my head is enough to drive you insane. Without originality, all we get every year is a selection of poorly produced songs, filled with cheesy jingle bells and cringe worthy lyrics re-recorded by the latest hot artist endlessly, and it becomes painfully obvious how broken the music industry is.
