I'm not entirely sure how you could be a person without doing something that's linked to cancer. Scientists will eventually find an association to petting rabbits with cancer and that is the day I will retire my soul because I won't need it anymore. If you're like me and you're frequently haunted by the ghost of H. David Dalquist, inventor of the bundt cake pan (He's angry because I donate bundt cakes to battered women shelters. I can't get him to tell me why something like that would upset him) so I continuously get little sleep and keep the lights on. Well guess what? Apparently not attending eight hours of unconscious school, sleeping with the lights on, and being tormented by culinary innovators are all associated with a higher risk of cancer. More interesting than the link between sleep deprivation and cancer are the statistics surrounding light exposure and breast cancer. The sun suppresses melatonin and basically the less light you're exposed to the more you have. Dr. Richard G. Stevens, Cancer Epidemiologist and professor at the University of Connecticut Health Center suggests that nowadays we are over-exposed to artificial light. He cites this as the reason cancer is a growing problem. A particular interesting finding in his research showed that blind women, because they perceive a much darker world, were much less likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer than their sighted counterparts.
