5 Ways To Live Forever (And 7 Reasons It Would Suck)
7. Overpopulation
Right, so you're gonna live forever, but is that really a good idea?
Imagine, for a moment, that everyone stopped dying this instant. No more deaths. Sounds great, you never have to worry about you or your loved ones shuffling off the mortal coil.
However, people are still being born at a rate 4.3 per second. This means that with every hour that passes, the world's population increases by 15,480. In just a day, that goes up to 371,520 and after one year of no deaths, there would be 135,604,800 new people on the planet. We also need to take into account that these new people will also one day have their own children, leading to runaway exponential population growth.
Even if we realised straight away that we needed to stop reproducing, the last birth wouldn't be until about nine months later. Even with a fixed population, the planet is already overpopulated as it is, and its resources aren't going to last forever. You're either going to have to innovate, or get off-world if you want to survive.
