6 No-Fail Funny Websites

2. The Mary Sue17http://www.themarysue.com/Touted as "A Guide to Girl Geek Culture," this is one of the best places on the internet to show some strong female solidarity. Whatculture.com does a lot to spread joy on a broad spectrum, but TheMarySue.com focuses on a much smaller fan base. It's not necessarily a place where everything is female-centric. There are articles about Ender's Game alongside the fan art of Disney princesses. There's Doctor Who and Game of Thrones. You can find a featurette on Wolverine or geek fashion commentary. If you're curious about the name, Mary Sue is a term very familiar to geeky writers everywhere. Mary Sue was a character in a Paula Smith Star Trek story. While the readers couldn't stop hating her, the characters couldn't stop loving her. She upstaged Kirk, outsmarted Scotty and when she finally kicked the bucket, Spock cried. Since then, Mary Sue has been a byword for the unrealistically fantastic girl of every person's dream. For me, this site is a haven.

That's Kaki pronounced like the pants, thank you very much, my family nickname and writing name. I am a Red Sox-loving, Doctor Who-quoting, Shaara-reading walking string quartet of a Mormon writer from Boston. I currently work 40 hours at a stressful desk job with a salary that lets me pick up and travel to places like Ireland or Philadelphia. I have no husband or kids, but I have five nephews to keep me entertained. When not writing, working or eating too much Indian food, I'm always looking for something new to learn, whether it's French or family history.
