Evidence that Tut died unexpectedly and suddenly continue to grow here. Both his sarcophagus and funerary mask were not measured accurately for him, which archaeologists interpreted as evidence that his death was sudden.

His funerary mask had to be glued to his body by embalmers with a primitive form of adhesive to keep it on his head and shoulders. Because of this, Howard Carter's team of archaeologists caused a considerable amount of damage to the mummy when trying to remove the mask, breaking Tut's collar bone and a number of ribs. A Pharaoh's funerary mask and sarcophagus were always measured accordingly, so the fact his mask does not fit shows it was intended to be worn by someone else.

Furthering the idea he died without warning, the paintings in Tut's tomb also had mould on them, showing that they had been applied to wet backing plaster as they were completed in a rush. Paintings in a Pharaoh's tomb were usually incredibly elaborate and covered all the walls, but Tut's were much more basic, again showing they had been completed quickly.
