7 Facts About Tutankhamun You Probably Didn't Know
3. Tutankhamun Broke His Leg Days Before He Died
When the first full MRI scan of King Tut's body was completed in 2015, a number of fractures were discovered. Most of these were shown to be results of the body being transported and clumsily examined upon its discovery, (such as the previously mentioned collar bone and rib breaks) but one break was proven to have happened just before Tut died.
A large break in Tut's femur just above the knee was proven to have happened mere days before his death by researchers due to the lack of healing surrounding the wound. Initially, this was seen as evidence that he died in a chariot crash until Tut's clubfoot was first observed.
Experts believe he died as a direct result of this break getting infected. As Ancient Egypt had no antibiotics and only primitive healing techniques, an open wound of such severity would almost certainly result in death. However, the exact cause of the break is still unknown.
