7 Mind-Blowing Things We Learned From Joe Rogan's Charles Manson Podcast With Tom O'Neill

4. Charles Manson: CIA Agent

Considering the absolute chaos he and his cult caused in Los Angeles during late 1960s, it's understandable that most people would believe that Manson was nothing more than a crazy man with even crazier followers. If you've ever seen any interviews with him, he was pretty much a nonsensical mess who would go from threatening those around him to unequivocally denying any involvement or wrongdoing within moments.

While it might seem like the work of a terrifying anarchist, O'Neill has evidence that Manson's insanity and love for chaos was being supported by the CIA. The author explains how Manson's parole officer, Roger Smith, was being lenient with Manson and keeping him out of jail.

Interestingly enough, Smith was also involved in drug research at the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic in June 1967, which just so happens to be around the time that Manson made the change from career criminal who had spent more than half of his life behind bars to the cult leader who used LSD to bring others into his world. O'Neill speculates that Manson might've been a test subject for the MK Ultra program as it was used in prison.

So what was the MK Ultra program and what did those in the program do to him?
