7 Psychological 'Tricks' That Are Total Bullsh*t

1. Brain Training

Not too long ago, we were all being told that, by playing some fun little games on our smartphones on a regular basis, we could train our brains, boost our intelligence and even ward off diseases such as Alzheimer's.

More recently, however, the headline-grabbing brain training breakthrough has had more holes poked in it than a colander.

For a start, the study that made the claims for brain training didn't have a proper control group - a big no no in science. The testing methods were also different between the groups and the researchers only used one kind of test to measure thier results.

Studies and meta-analyses since have so far failed to replicate the results of the original research and there is simply no solid evidence that brain training games improve your cognitive abilities. If you find them fun and diverting, go for it, but if you were hoping to boost your brain power, save your money.
