You're likely familiar with the internet hacking group known as Anonymous. These mask-wearing vigilantes are infamous for taking the law into their own hands and leaking information - for better or worse - regarding major cases. They even had a hand in unveiling the cover-up of the Steubenville rape, but here, they were the instigators of the final investigation.

Taking place in Nova Scotia, Canada, the suicide of Rehteah Parsons came as a result of the online and in-person bullying she received after images of her being raped by four classmates circulated the school. It was a massively controversial case, as the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) deemed they had insufficient evidence to lay charges.

In response to this, the hacktivist group threatened the RCMP by vowing to release the personal information of her attackers (found through research on the images they took) if they didn't re-open the case.

Eventually, Rehteah Parsons' case was restarted, and two boys were charged for child pornography and sentenced with Conditional Discharge and Probation respectively.
