8 Dreadful Acts From US Presidents

2. Grover Cleveland Robs The Cradle

There are two well known facts about Grover Cleveland. One, he was the 22nd and 24th president of the United States, because he was so fat, (actually he's just the first person to serve two non sequential terms). The second thing he's famous for is being a swinging bachelor.

That is of course until he became the first president to marry in the white house. So really three, he's famous for three things.

Grover Cleveland, planned every aspect of the white house wedding, except the dress, and was wed to Frances Folsom on 2 June 1886.

He was 49, she was 21. Weird.

Age difference aside (Evel Knievel would find a gap that wide hard to overcome) Frances was something of a daughter to Grover. Her father, an old friend of Cleveland's, had died in a carriage accident and Grover became a caregiver to his friend's widow and their 11 year old daughter, remember his future wife.

Cleveland was present when Frances was born, and even bought her a pram. It may not be a terrible act but it's definitely creepy.

Of course if marrying your legal ward isn't sinister enough he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman and having her committed to an asylum. Nothing was ever proven and the scandal is widely forgotten.

Wesley Cunningham-Burns hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
