Michael Malloy was born in County Donegal, Ireland.

Homeless and alcoholic, Malloy spent a lot of his time in a speakeasy owned by Tony Marino. Marino could see that Malloy had no family or friends, so enlisted the help of several friends - a group of men later dubbed 'The Murder Trust' - and together they opened a life insurance policy on Malloy.

They convinced Malloy to sign to give the Trust a payout upon his death, a total of $1780. Malloy would have to die of natural causes, though. Easy, given that he was homeless and it was the middle of winter.

The Trust assumed that they could get Malloy to drink to death. Every night, Malloy would drink continuously, but incredibly, he survived. They switched his drink for antifreeze, then added poison, to little effect.

The Trust then got him drunk, left him in the street, and ran him over. They left Malloy there, hoping he would be dead found in the morning.

Malloy soon reappeared, battered and bruised, but alive. They got him drunk again, then drove Malloy out to a local park, where they covered him with water and left him unconscious on a bench to freeze death.

The next morning, Malloy walked back into the speakeasy and asked for a drink. The Trust fed Malloy raw oysters soaked in methanol. Then they fed him spoiled sardines mixed with poison and metal shavings, but Malloy gulped it all down, asking for seconds.

The Trust then carried Malloy upstairs, where they gassed him. He died within an hour.

The Trust were caught and all sent to the electric chair.

Michael Malloy was 60 years old and homeless. He survived repeated attempts on his life. He died eventually, but not before he secured his place in history as 'Iron Mike'. (No, not that one.)
