8 Huge Predictions For Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
4. We're Going To Find Out More About Harry's Childhood
As J.K. Rowling as stated multiple times (each with increased weariness and exhaustion), Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is NOT a prequel. But a prequel is something that takes place before the events of a story, not during. By saying that The Cursed Child isn't a prequel to the Harry Potter series, that means none of it takes place before the events of the first book. Fair enough, but the first book begins with Harry as a one year old child, so there's still plenty of scope for fair exploration. Not convinced? When the play was first announced way back in 2013, it was described as a story that would deeper explore Harry's childhood as an orphan. This would technically be set during the events of the Harry Potter series, so it definitely wouldn't qualify as a prequel. Yet we know the story's present will be set after The Deathly Hallows, so how might we examine the past? Knowing that Harry is an investigator for the Ministry of Magic, it's obvious he'd have access to all sorts of documents and reports on his entire life. It's practically a certainty that Harry was the subject of intense surveillance in order to protect him while growing up, so he may be forced to retread his past by stumbling on such documents or having to sift through them for work. After all, the synopsis reads Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs.
