8 Scientific Reasons Why Teenagers Are Completely Insane
4. Puppy Love
God, teenage relationships are just so dramatic aren't they? Well, actually, when a teenager says that they're "madly in love", they might actually be telling you the truth. A survey of teenagers around 17 years of age asked them to describe their general mood and conduct, but also probed them on their relationship status. It was found that, of the 133 who answered the questionnaire, 65 indicated that they had recently fallen in love. The rest of their answers indicated that they were also stark raving mad. It was found that, on average, love struck teenagers needed an hour less sleep per night, acted compulsively, had increased creative energy and admitted to driving too fast, taking risks spending too much money. This would actually be enough for most psychiatrists to diagnose Hypomania, a mental state that overlaps with the mania experience by people with Bipolar Disorder. They are, quite literally, crazy in love.
