8 Terrifying Unsolved Halloween Mysteries

6. The Vanishing Of Cindy Song

Cindy Song - real name Hyun Jong Song - went missing in the early morning hours of November 1st, 2001 following a night out a club for a Halloween party. The Penn State University senior had been out until 2:00 AM, at which point she and her friends left a club and headed to another friend's apartment for another couple of hours, before they dropped Cindy off at her place at around 4:00 AM.

After Song was reported missing a search of her apartment yielded no signs of a struggle or foul play. Police knew she had made it inside because false eyelashes and the backpack that she'd worn to the party were found in the home, as well as her cell phone. The only things missing were her purse and wallet, suggesting that she'd possibly went out again. Her credit card showed no activity subsequent to her disappearance, and neither the authorities nor her family believe that she vanished willingly.

The case made national news and a tip came in from a woman claiming to have spotted someone matching Cindy's description in Philadelphia - over 200 miles away from Song's home - being held against her will in a vehicle with another man, who threatened the witness and told her to leave. Authorities were unable to verify the statement and reported that the witness changed the details several times. A possible break in the case came when bank robber Hugo Selenski confessed to Song's murder after the destroyed remains of twelve people were found buried on his property.

Selenski told police that he and another man, Michael Kerkowski, Jr. abducted Cindy off the street and kept her imprisoned in his walk-in safe until she perished, and then buried her on the property. However, none of the remains discovered could be identified as Song, and the only person who could corroborate this claim - Kerkowski, Jr. - was one of the bodies buried on Selenski's land. The case remains open to this day, with the prevailing theory that Selenski murdered her but no evidence exists to link him.
