8 Terrifying Unsolved Halloween Mysteries

5. Jane Doe With The Orange Socks

On Halloween, 1979 the body of a young woman was found in a concrete culvert near Interstate 35 outside of Georgetown, Texas. The unidentified Jane Doe was a victim of sexual assault and strangulation and had apparently died the same day her body was discovered. The only clues to her identity were an oval-shaped silver ring she wore and a matchbook from a Holiday Inn in Henryetta, Oklahoma.

The young woman had excellent teeth with no sign of any dental work so identifying her through that avenue was a dead end. She was also fully nude with the exception of a pair of orange socks, which became her unofficial nickname when discussing the case. The notorious serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to her murder, claiming that he had picked her up as a hitchhiker and defiled her corpse after she died, but could only remember her name as being either Judy or Joanie.

After his conviction in1984 he recanted his confession In an attempt at receiving a reduced sentence, and Lucas was infamous for taking credit for murders he didn'€™t actually commit; so much so that it€™s not known how many people he actually did kill. Furthermore, evidence suggested that Lucas wasn'€™t even in the state at the time the murder occurred. Henry Lee Lucas €“ who died while incarcerated in 2001 €“ was also alleged to be the accomplice of Otis Toole, the man named as the killer of Adam Walsh, although he€™s not believed to have had any involvement with that crime.

Orange Socks is one of several unidentified victims that Lucas was linked to. Authorities were also never able to identify an anonymous woman who called police three separate times saying she had seen the victim hitchhiking near Georgetown on the day of the murder. What exactly happened to Orange Socks?
