8 Times Books Creepily Predicted The Future

1. John Brummer Predicted Modern Society As A Whole

John Brummer was a British sci-fi writer who was born in Oxfordshire, England in 1934. By far his most celebrated novel was Stand On Zanzibar, a novel that correctly predicted, well...everything. Okay, so maybe not everything, but Brummer predicted a hell of a lot of stuff about modern society, so much so that it's pretty damn spooky. Stand On Zanibar was published in 1969 and contained all kinds of fascinating details about our current world. There are terrorist attacks carried out in America, random, violent school shootings and Israel remains the centre of conflict in the Middle East. Not only that, but America's most powerful rival is no longer the Soviet Union, but China, and this battle is fought not literally, but through the race for better economics and technology. On a societal level, a new generation of young adults are disillusioned with marriage and prefer short-term flings and hookups, and homosexuality and bisexuality are widely accepted ways of life. There's also the ability to record television shows for watching later, global TV channels, electric cars, laser printers and legal weed. Brummer's world is positively brimming with correct predictions about modern society, so much so that it almost feels like he lived in it...
