9 Huge Mistakes In The Harry Potter Books You Didn't Even Notice
3. Fred And George Turn A Blind Eye To Ron's Companion In Bed
The Marauder's Map is an amazing tool, one which aids Harry and friends multiple times throughout the series. Unfortunately for Rowling, however, it's so powerful that it was just begging to create a few issues with consistency. One of the key (and most hilarious) issues comes in the form of Peter Pettigrew, the nefarious wizard who defected to Voldemort's side and framed Sirius Black. Put simply, Pettigrew is incredibly infamous, and not the sort of person Harry Potter or any witches or wizards close to him are likely to forget.
We learn in Prisoner of Azkaban that Pettigrew is disguised as a rat named Scabbers, a rat that incidentally comes into the possession of Ron Weasley for several years. This is supposed to be a shocking twist, and ultimately it is, but it raises a couple key questions.
The Marauder's Map allows its reader to see the location of anyone in Hogwarts. Before coming into Harry's possession, it's owned by Fred and George Weasley. Given how Ron's pet Scabbers is commonly with him and at night in or next to his bed, given the dormitory situation how on earth didn't Fred and George Weasley notice that Ron was getting cosy with a man named Peter every single night?
And if they recognize the name... why didn't they warn somebody that Ron was sleeping with a purported dead man?
