9 Serial Killers Who Are Now Free
1. The Monster Of The Andes
We end our list in Colombia with Pedro Alonso López, known as the Monster of the Andes for his crimes in several South American countries. López was a career criminal who made his money by stealing cars and - like the previous two - he attributed his eventual actions to a rough childhood. His mother kicked him out for sexually assaulting his younger sister when he was eight and the next decade of his life was filled with crime and sexual violence.
While in prison for theft, he picked up a reputation for murdering other prisoners who, he claimed, sexually assaulted him. López moved to Peru where he picked up a new hobby: kidnapping and murdering local children. He was captured after killing 100 little girls, but only deported to Ecuador where he continued his killing spree, racking up a body count of over 350 girls under the age of 12.
He was sentenced to 16 years in prison in Ecuador, freed after 14 for good behavior, and then served one year in a Colombian mental facility before being released on bail in 2002. He quickly violated his bail agreement and disappeared into South America. Many fear he has simply continued his terrifying hobby. Who knows how many new victims he could have caused in the last decade?
