Every Major Alton Towers Ride Ranked Worst To Best

7. Spinball Whizzer

Another one of Alton Towers' old but gold rides, Spinball Whizzer was first built in 2004 and is themed around the arcade classic game of Pinball. Located in the heart of Adventure Land with the gorgeous sight of the estate nearby, from 2010 to 2015 the ride was renamed Sonic Spinball and themed all around the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.

The Whizzer is unique for featuring two ways of spinning its riders around, with the track hurtling around thanks to its chain lift system and its carriages spinning around throughout the duration of the ride. Reaching a top speed of around 37mph, Spinball Whizzer doesn't necessarily have the optimised smoothness of some of the other big rides in the park, but that's what makes it such a fun ride.

Lurching from corner to corner in such a tight carriage really does ramp up the adrenaline, and it can genuinely feel like the whole thing is about to fall apart or be flung off its tracks at certain parts. Looks can certainly be deceiving, and never has that been more true than with the Spinball Whizzer.
