Harry Potter: 10 Plot Points That No One Will Ever Agree On
8. The Unforgivable Curses
Harry is our main hero, and the three Unforgivable Curses are unforgivable. Well-named, right? The Killing Curse (Avada kedavra) is an unblockable killing curse, used to murder Harry's parents. The Cruciatus Curse is a terrible torture spell, nearly killing Hermione and driving Neville Longbottom's parents into madness. The Imperius Curse removes from a person all free will, leading innocent Stan Shunpike to unwittingly join the side of the Death Eaters. Yes, this is a children's book series.. Harry has used two out of the three spells, and therein arises the big question: are the Unforgivable Curses forgivable if used by the good guys? Is Imperius okay, but not Cruciatus? Should the Killing Curse have been used for the greater good? There's no easy answer, and certainly not one that will be shared by everybody.
"'I see what Bellatrix meant,' said Harry, the blood thundering through his brain. 'You need to really mean it.'"
Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
