Harry Potter And The Cursed Child: 7 Most Compelling Theories

4. Draco Malfoy Is The Cursed Child

The evolution of Draco Malfoy from secondary antagonist to whingey victim by the end of the seventh book was entertaining to watch - particularly as he saw himself as some sort of chosen one - but it would be foolish to imagine that that was the end of his arc. Malfoy arguably has as many wounds as Harry by the time Voldemort is vanquished: he's a blood traitor, he was defeated by his mortal (and inferior) enemy and he was abused by Voldemort badly in the final book. Seeing him deal with that, wrestling with his ghosts and the weight of expectation in his genes to grow up a "true" Slytherin (and go bad), could be a less obvious take on the meaning of the play's title. And it would be compelling viewing on a stage. Theory Rating: 2/10 This is far more a fan-wish than an actual theory, as Draco's story beyond the end of the books has bountiful potential. By rights, he should grow up broken or seeking vengeance (rather than becoming a blunted blade), and picking away at the surface of that alternate future would have been wonderful to watch.
