7. What Is Jaqen's Mission?
At the end of A Feast for Crows, we learn faceless assassin Jaqen H'ghar is undercover at the Citadel. He assassinated Pate the Pig Boy and stole his identity. Samwell Tarly arrived at the Citadel for help in defeating the Others, and there he met Jaqen posing as the young novice, but what we don't know is why. An important note to remember is in "A Dance With Dragons"; Tyrion reveals the last surviving copy of "The Death of Dragons" is lurking in a hidden vault somewhere in the Citadel. If you remember, the Faceless Men originated in Braavos, a city whose hatred for dragons knows no bounds. Jaqen is possibly there to find this book. A theory being thrown around is Euron Greyjoy paid a Faceless Man with a dragon egg to assassinate Balon Greyjoy. With the book, the Faceless Assassins would have both knowledge and a test subject for experimentation. The only problem is how impossible it is to awaken a dragon from their eggs. With three living, breathing dragons flying around, Braavos has to be petrified of an attack. Another theory is the real Horn of Winter is at the Citadel. Samwell Tarly continuously carries a broken old warhorn on his journey. In ADwD, Tormund Giantsbane reveals the horn Mance Rayder has was a fake to trick the Night's Watch. Maybe Jaqen was sent to search for the horn and, in an ironic turn of events, actually stumbles upon the real object in Sam's possession. Something huge is brewing at the Citadel and Jaqen may be the cause of it.
