What Happens When We Die?

2. A White Space

Many people describe a sensation of everything feeling "right" during an NDE and feeling as though what they are currently experiencing makes all the sense in the world. This was the experience of Reddit userĀ myk1323:

I was about 14 yrs old and me and a friend were listening to what we thought were airplanes on a large handheld walkie-talkie radio. We climbed to the top of a pine tree in my backyard to get better reception. We were listening, and the next thing I knew I was surrounded by white, not like in a room because there were no walls or boundaries... I was standing on a floor unseen. I was perfectly aware, and was thinking normally. I was taking in my surroundings, which were just me in a white space. I didn't know where I was or how I got there. Then I woke up half way down the tree. I soon realized that the antenna had touched the power lines. My hands were blistered and I had a hole in my leg where the electricity exited my body. Seeing white while being shocked makes sense to me, the one thing thats never made sense though is how I was able to think and be aware of my surroundings like I was."

According to some experts, people of all ages are capable of experiencing an NDE, but the younger the person, the less complex it is likely to be. In the case of a very young child, the experience may be blocked from the memory altogether and may or may not be recalled later on in life.
