Zodiac Case: Every Suspect That Was Seriously Considered
5. Lawrence Kaye
Despite being over 50 years old, we're still seeing breakthroughs in the Zodiac Case as recently as last year. The decryption of the 340-cipher had stumped specialists for decades before its decryption in December 2020. When the trio of amateur sleuths released their solve, Fayçal Ziraoui wondered if this same solve be applied to the then still elusive Z13 cipher. His alleged finding is quite chilling for followers of the case: "MY NAME IS KAYR."
The Zodiac was known for spelling errors across his coded messages, thus the potential for this code to actually point to well-known suspect Lawrence Kaye. Kaye drew the police's attention due to his loner lifestyle and indifference to women, and he is one of the few suspects who somewhat matches the Zodiac's description.
The most damning evidence is the account of Kathleen Johns, a woman who claimed to have been abducted and threatened by the Zodiac before her daring escape from a moving car with her infant child. Jones arguably had the most face time with the Zodiac (and survived), and picked Kaye out of a police line-up.
Ziraoui's solve is not officially confirmed, though, leaving room for considerable doubt to his conclusions.
