Zodiac Case: Every Suspect That Was Seriously Considered

3. The Manson Family

There was a time, especially early on in the case, where desperation led investigators to throw literally any name into the ring. We've already seen it with Ted Kaczynski, now get ready for the real wildcard: the Manson Family.

Charles Manson is the most infamous serial killer who might have never actually killed anyone with his own hands. It was the doomsday cult he led that carried out the murders under his instruction. The Manson Family was an especially sensational story at the time of the murders because of the nature of the crimes and the targets; a selection of its members would be directed by Manson to the intended victim - victims who on one occasion included Hollywood star Sharon Tate.

The Manson Family were active at around the same time as the Zodiac, their crime spree wrapping up in 1969 with the apprehension of several cult members including Manson. With these arrests occurring at the height of the Zodiac frenzy, it was only logical that the male members of the cult also be investigated for the murders which happened on the Manson Family's home turf of California. No links appeared, however, leaving the victims of the Zodiac still without justice.
