The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad are all effectively the same premise, a suburban family lead by a borderline insane father with a stubborn mind that can often be assumed is woefully short on working brain cells. Due to this they are often dragged, usually unwillingly, through one easily blown out of proportion scenario to the next.
American Dad's dad is the 42 year old man, in service to the government and constantly vigilant for terrorist activity.
