10 Benefits To Learning Brazilian Jiujitsu
8. Compliments Other Martial Arts
There's an old/stubborn school of thought that a certain martial art is infinitely better than the other. That old adage of "X art is better than Y" is such a sad notion that does, unfortunately, still exist.
Not in BJJ though.
Thai boxing (Muay Thai), for example, uses clinches and sweeps that can be drilled in a similar manner to jiujitsu. You'll see MMA fighters follow up strikes to clinch (grab at close range) their opponent before putting them on the floor.
Judo and Russian Sambo compliment BJJ perfectly. All competition matches start standing, so having a repertoire of throws and takedowns can give you an immediate advantage, as well as a two point lead.
The fluidity and versatility of jiujitsu isn't limited to fighting on the ground, even though a majority of techniques are ground-based. Having a knowledge of other [legal] techniques can only make your game better.
Don't let anyone tell you one is better than the other... unless it's that hokey chi/no-touch nonsense. Bin that hocus pocus off immediately.
