10 Benefits To Learning Brazilian Jiujitsu

6. Fitness/Weight Loss

Brazilian Jiujitsu
Men's Health

It goes without saying that any kind of exercise is going to help your general fitness. Of course, an hour on the mats shouldn't be balanced out with junk food as a regular diet, either.

Yet what makes BJJ great for all-over fitness is it's not a static workout. Whereas weightlifting is working one area at a time, jiujitsu can have you utilising several areas at once.

In thirty seconds, you could be crunching your stomach as defence before bridging with your legs to using upper body strength to climb on someone.

Add to that the uniform you're wearing, which unfortunately you are gonna sweat in, will add weight to your workout. Even in nogi (remember, just the rashguard and shorts/leggings) sessions, you'll still be putting a lot of these dynamic and explosive movements to use.

As with anything, there is a whole wealth of pre - and post - workout diet and exercise regimes available to suit you, if you're into shaping up.

The above pic is just an exaggerated example, but it's also feasible with the right mindset. You may not even want to lose weight, which is fine. Jiujitsu will help your overall fitness as you progress.
