10 Best Golf Courses In The World

2. Royal County Down

The Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland opened in 1889, but it has only been in the last decade where the course has been fully appreciated on a global scale.

As with many courses featured in this list, it holds a coastal location, while the picturesque background of the Mountains of Mourne provide somewhat of a tranquil feel to anyone taking to the fairways.

As far as the holes are concerned, each one is littered with bunkers, which come more into play if a fairway is missed or a tee shot misjudged. Despite the obvious challenges, the layout of the course and the pristine condition of all its features make this an attractive venue for any player.

The weather conditions can also change the feel of the course. Difficulty is minimised during the summer, but in the cooler months which are accompanied by sharper winds from the sea, any player is susceptible to a high-scoring round.

The most recent event to be staged at the course was the 2015 Irish Open.
