10 Best Golf Courses In The World
1. Oakmont
The Oakmont Golf Club in Pennsylvania has been described as both the toughest and best golf course in the world by a number of leading players, past and present, and that's enough for us to rate in first place in this list.
There are over 200 bunkers present on the course while the greens are unforgiving due to their speed and undulating surfaces. The change in slope direction on the fairways can sometimes make it impossible for the ball to stop on the favourable surface or on the green, leaving open the possibility of a whole host of scores.
The last major tournament to be held at Oakmont was the US Open in 2007, which was won by Angel Cabrera. During that tournament, only eight below-par rounds were recorded throughout the entire four days, with Cabrera winning with a score of five-over-par.
It is no coincidence that the venue has hosted more US Open events than anyone else, and that number will be taken to nine in 2016 when the tournament returns to Pittsburgh.
