5. Steve Stricker

He has spent a total of 253 weeks in the top 10 in the world rankings and holds the record for most amount of cuts made in a row on the PGA Tour so the inclusion of Steve Stricker in this list is a no-brainer.

Despite his best years as a professional coming over the last decade, Stricker came closest to a major all the way back in 1998 when he finished in second place to Vijay Singh.

Stricker shared the lead with Singh heading into the final round but he only managed a 70 in comparison to Singh's 68 and he has never gone any closer to capping a fine career with victory on the biggest stage.

Since that tournament, he has not finished inside the top five of a major which is bewildering considering he spent most of the time between 2007 and 2012 holding his own among the elite.

He won nine competitions during that period, including a couple of events in the end-of-season Fedex Cup playoffs, but he never took that extra step at the vital moment.
