4. Chip Beck

Chip Beck only won four PGA Tour titles during his professional career but the trophies that he earned in the sport do not tell the whole story.

As well as featuring in three American Ryder Cup teams and never being on the losing side, Beck finished as runner-up at a PGA Tour event on 20 occasions which includes three times at a major tournament.

At the 1986 US Open, he finished two shots adrift after a final-round 65 before three years later, he enjoyed another excellent Sunday before ending the competition just one shot behind the winner Curtis Strange.

He was further behind in his third and final runner-up spot when missing out to Bernard Langer at the 1993 Masters but his performance again showed that he was capable of challenging the top players in the world.

His four tournament triumphs all came between 1988 and 1992, a time where Beck was in his prime and spent almost a year inside the world's top 10.

The American left the tour relatively early to take up a job outside of golf but he can look back at his career with pride despite missing out on so many occasions.
