He’s played for Monaco, Real Madrid, and Spurs, but Emmanuel Adebayor will probably forever be best known for running the length of the City Of Manchester Stadium in order to really, really wind up the travelling Arsenal fans.

That transfer window, the summer of 2009, Adebayor had made the switch from North London to Manchester City. He found his shooting boots from the off, scoring in his first four matches, the last against his former club.

No fan of the respectful non-celebration against your old employers, Adebayor charged the length of the pitch at full pelt, knee sliding towards the away fans. To say they’re not happy is an understatement. The litter pelting begins the moment he gets close, and the stewards are called into action to block the baying crowd.

Adebayor cited abuse from the Arsenal fans as his motivation for this, and there’s no denying that the game was a testy occasion. As far as acts of footballing provocation go, it’s a pretty extreme one, and probably not the best idea on the player’s part. It’s very funny, though.
