There are times in football when a big money signing arrives, stars in their opening few games, and you think the club has struck gold.

This was the case with Di Maria, who got off to a flying start with Man United after sealing a move to Old Trafford which set the Red Devils back over £60m.

Stunning performances against the likes of Leicester City had United fans salivating, while his ability to drift past defenders with ease drew comparisons to United great Ryan Giggs.

It wouldn't last though, and Di Maria found himself quickly out of form and quickly out of favour under then manager Louis Van Gaal.

While you can't simply pin the blame on Di Maria given he was part of a struggling United side in general, it's not unreasonable to expect a bit more from a £60m player.

The Argentinian was subsequently sold on after only a year in Manchester, with the club taking a hefty loss on a player who failed to do the famous number seven jersey any justice whatsoever.
