10 Biggest Brendan Rodgers Mistakes As Liverpool Manager

2. His Transfer Policy

Again, this one isn't completely the fault of Brendan Rodgers, although he certainly doesn't help matters. Liverpool have seemed entirely unwilling to splash out in the transfer market during his time as manager, besides a couple of insane decisions (Balotelli chief among them). And that's despite losing key players like Suárez and Sterling. Key players, and ones whose sale have given Liverpool a lot of money to play with. It appears that Rodgers and the board go in one of two ways: refusing to pick up any new players, despite the need to plug the gap of departing team members and having some considerably sums to do so, or else spending that cash on a slew of unproven or else un-showy, lower league jobsmen. It's either quantity over quality or none of the above. In light of that, you can see why Rodgers often plays bizarre formations: he simply doesn't have enough players, or enough quality players, for certain plans of attack. Of course, he has nobody to blame but himself, as the choice of team and where they play is ultimately down to him, not Fenway Sports Group.
