10 Biggest Dodged Bullets In Man Utd Transfer History
6. Wesley Sneijder
In the summer of 2010, Wesley Sneijder was at the top of Manchester United's wishlist following his historic treble-winning season with Inter Milan, which took in a Champions League crown. The Holland midfielder was among the most coveted midfield talents at the time and United made an approach with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson looking for fresh creative talent. However, according to Sneijder, Inter asked for too much money and the Red's interest gradually cooled, with nothing came of the matter. Considering the Dutchman's relationship with the Italian side would later go into total meltdown with Sniejder revealing himself to be something of a nightmare to work with, United possibly dodged a bullet. Sneijder was frozen out at Inter last year after the Serie A side hit financial difficulties, and when they asked him to take a wage cut he refused. As such he made only five league appearances in 2012-13. The Milanese club's off-field woes led them to finish ninth in the league and resulted in the sacking of manager Andrea Stramaccioni, which Sneijder says, somewhat harshly, he has so sympathy for. He said:
I feel very sorry for the players and fans, but I do not mind at all for others at the club that Inter finished only ninth this season and that the coach had to go.
