10 Biggest Dodged Bullets In Man Utd Transfer History
7. Lucas Moura
During the summer of 2012, Manchester United were locked in a battle with Paris Saint-Germain for the services of highly-rated Lucas Moura. The French moneybags ending up winning the race by paying São Paulo a reported 42 million (£33 million) to take Moura off their hands in the January window earlier this year. And United may well have counted their blessings. The 21-year-old was one of the most coveted young players on the market a year ago but just over half a year on, has done precious little to live up to his massive price tag. Lucas has yet to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Parc des Princes, starting just seven full games last season and managing to score just five goals in 46 appearances, compared to the 19 in 74 he netted during his playing days in Brazil. It's too early yet to call Moura a flop, but given the size of his price tag and the fact he has done little to show he is worth such an astronomical fee, the Red Devils were certainly better off when they lost out to PSG in the battle to sign the star earlier this year, and that was reflected in a poll conducted by French newspaper LEquipe recently, which found that 82 percent of fans believe 42 million was a figure over the odds for the one-time United target.
