2. Roberto Baggio - Fiorentina To Juventus (£8 million)
A
then world record transfer fee, Roberto Baggio's move to Juventus from Fiorentina sparked riots throughout the city of Florence, with 50 people suffering injuries in the process. The Divine Ponytail had spent 5 years with La Viola, displaying excellent performances throughout. However his time with the Florence based club failed to provide Baggio with any silverware, and so when a bid was received by Juventus, Baggio placed his personal ambition to win above the relationship he had fashioned with Fiorentina's fans. His move to Turin did prove fruitful. While at Juventus, Baggio won the Serie A, the Uefa Cup and the Coppa Italia, as well as being named the European and World Footballer of the year in 1993. Yet despite perceivably turning his back on La Viola, Baggio continued to hold the club dear to his heart. In 1990, in a game against his former club, Baggio refused to take a penalty, and when substituted, kissed a Fiorentina scarf. It was this passion that Baggio displayed towards Fiorentina that made this transfer to a rival so big, and caused so much unrest.
