10 Biggest MMA Stories Of 2014

7. Profits, Buyrates Down For the UFC

Profits are down. Buyrates are down. 2014 was not a good year for the UFC financially. For the first time in years, they had not one but two Pay-per-View events that struggled to meet the 100,000 buy mark. That's an unbelievably quick fall from grace, and in part a reaction by fans to the promotion's over-saturation of events. Simply put, there are far too many UFC events these days, and with a freebie on TV every other week, what's the point of buying an overpriced PPV card with only one or two good fights on it? Injuries didn't help either, though it should be pointed out that by spreading themselves too thin, the promotion allowed injures to have more impact than they should have. In short, earnings were down 40% in 2014 - no wonder the company has become desperate to bring in names.
