10 Darkest Spurs Moments Of The Premier League Era

5. Ledley King Retires

Ledley King is the biggest Spurs legend in recent history. King was a one-club man - a rarity in modern football - as he was at White Hart Lane since joining as a youth player in 1996 until his retirement in 2012. His retirement was a particularly sad occasion because of the fact that it was injury that meant he could no longer play on, despite the fact he was only 31 years old (three months away from his 32nd birthday). Indeed, his entire career had been blighted by injury. Such was the extent of his knee problems - he had no cartilage in there, so it was just bone on bone when he ran - that he couldn't train. The fact he could play at all - let alone accumulate well over 300 first team appearance - is astounding. It really was a sad day when he retired - though it wasn't unexpected - and he is now a club ambassador.
