10 Dream UFC Fights Dana White Wanted To Promote

7. Overeem vs. JDS

Ufc 146 Another fight that Dana White had pretty much booked. As far as dream fights at heavyweight go, Alistair Overeem vs Junior Dos Santos was a huge one. Prior to Strikeforce being acquired by the UFC, there was Fedor, who everyone wanted to see fight in the UFC - and there was Alistair Overeem. Overeem's credentials outside the UFC were massive: K-1 champ, Dream champ, Strikeforce champ. His questionably crafted physique was imposing, and he had fought in Pride. Overeem was seen by many as the best heavyweight in the world not named Fedor. And unlike The Last Emperor, The Reem made his way over to the UFC when Zuffa picked up Strikeforce and its stacked heavyweight roster. The fight everyone wanted to see at the time was Junior Dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem. This was a dream fight so close to reality you could taste it. And then it all fell apart. Overeem made his UFC debut against Brock Lesnar, but it was anything but smooth getting to the octagon for the hulking Dutch fighter. He seemingly dodged a pre-fight drug test, which led to some major scrutiny and extensive drug testing by the NSAC leading into the bout. He would dispatch Lesnar (who was returning from surgery that removed a foot of colon due to a recurring bout of diverticulitis) handedly, and earned a shot at Dos Santos - then UFC champ. The bout was booked for UFC 146. However, he would fail a pre-fight drug test with a 14 to 1 testosterone to epitestosterone ratio (6:1 is allowed by the NSAC). Overeem was out of the fight, and suspended. Frank Mir would replace him against Dos Santos, and lose in a lop-sided beating. Overeem would return to action noticeably smaller, and lose two straight fights to Bigfoot Silva and Travis Browne, gassing in both. Dos Santos and Overeem have been linked to fights with one another a couple more times since then, but the fight has yet to come to pass, with many feeling Overeem is ducking the UFC's best boxer.
