The classic. The most famous teary outburst of all was undoubtedly Paul Gascoigne during the 1990 World Cup semi-final against West Germany. For England fans anyway. Gazza was the sensation of the tournament, becoming a world star and solidifying his iconic status by scything down Thomas Berthold during extra time. Amidst a chorus of protests from the Germans, the referee brandished a yellow, banning Gazza from a potential place in the final and causing his bottom lip to wobble uncontrollably. And then off he went, crying floods for England and unconsciously symbolising another 24 years of tears and disappointment for Englands players, management and supporters. This legendary image of Gazza bearing his soul for his country has in recent years been somewhat usurped by big-eared crisp seller Gary Lineker and his have a word with him moment immediately after.
Chris James Peet says hello. His interests include hoping for the best and sitting in chairs. He much prefers moaning to counting his blessings and suffers fools gladly. He also likes to look out of the window and check what's in the fridge but he hates standing up, dripping taps and reality.
